Mississippi State Hospital serves the needs of people with mental illness in the western two thirds of the state, covering 51 of the state's 82 counties.  This represents approximately 1.6 million Mississippi citizens.  Statewide admissions are taken for the female chemical dependency unit, forensic services and Jaquith Nursing Home.  Patients can be committed both voluntarily and involuntarily.  Involuntary commitments take priority due to limited bed space.
