Continued Psychiatric Services

Continued Treatment Unit (39)

Continued treatment services include a variety of treatment units which provide care for adults needing more extensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment than can be provided on an acute or intermediate care unit.  These patients exhibit a wide range of psychiatric symptoms as well as corresponding impairment of social functioning, activities of daily living, economic self-sufficiency and capacity for self-direction.  Though most patients receive psychotropic medication, the treatment programs emphasize education about positive and negative symptoms of mental illness and development of skills needed to function independently.  Specialized programming is also provided for elderly psychiatric patients, whose illness often includes a progressive and degenerative condition.
