Intermediate Psychiatric Services

Intermediate Treatment Unit (building 90)
Intermediate treatment services include one male unit (building 90) and one female unit, which is located on the female receiving unit (building 63).   The intermediate units focus on care for patients who have relatively acute psychiatric problems, but require a longer stabilization period than can be provided on an acute receiving ward. Programming on these units is also focused on patients who have experienced repeated acute hospitalizations, suggesting they may benefit from a longer period of inpatient care.  These individuals have been rehabilitated to a point that they can benefit from a more active pre-discharge treatment focus.  Patients treated on these units learn skills which will facilitate their transition back to the community.  These skills are learned through a structured treatment program in which increased privileges are accompanied by increased levels of responsibility.
